Report for a past date

Hi experts,

I try to get a report of the balance of suppliers and / or customers for a date in the past.

I understand that I have to entered an earlier date, but if I compare the obtained report in a date like January 31, 2014

with the same report obtained today (April 21 2014) I do not get equal results.

obviously for the movements between January , February, March and April

How I can get a picture of the report like in the past?

Is it possible? or not? do i need to get a backup of the database and put it in a diferent instance  (company) to the users?
